Physical linguistics is the theory that was initialized by Tao Yang in 2002 to answer these questions. Physical linguistics provides a theoretical framework for implementing natural language into man-made machines for the purpose of building computational cognition into these machines. Unlike in classical AI methods where symbols are modeled as tokens independent of the physical realities, the words in physical linguistics are represented by real physical Beings and Becomings. Physical linguistics uses a paradigm of (symbol, fuzzy logic, computational verb) to make natural languages measurable and further to make the Cognition physical by using a new concept called the Unicogse coined from the Universe and The Cognition by Tao Yang in 2004. Tao Yang called the image of the Cognition as computational cognition of which the meaning is different to the same term used by other research groups. There is an international journal called International Journal of Computational Cognition to provide an open forum to this fast growing theory.
Yet, physical linguistics provides very practical engineering solutions to problems closely connected to human cognition, such as the engineering applications of image understanding. Yang’s Scientific Research Institute, LLC., developed an image processing platform called Physical Linguistic Vision based on this theory.
